Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has reinforced India’s growing importance as a global automotive manufacturing and export hub after being named ‘Automobile: Top Exporter’ for FY 2025–26 by the Mumbai Port Authority. With more than 40,000 vehicles exported through Mumbai Port during the financial year, the recognition highlights the company’s expanding international footprint and its commitment to the “Make in India, for India and the World” vision.
India’s automotive manufacturing landscape is steadily evolving from being primarily domestic-market focused to becoming an increasingly important part of global vehicle production and supply chains. At the centre of this transformation is Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited, whose export operations continue to demonstrate the capabilities of India’s manufacturing ecosystem.
The company’s latest achievement came at the Business Conclave with Partners, where SAVWIPL was honoured as the ‘Automobile: Top Exporter’ for FY 2025–26 by the Mumbai Port Authority. The award recognised the export of more than 40,000 vehicles through Mumbai Port during the financial year, underlining the port’s strategic importance to the company’s international logistics network.
Accepting the award on behalf of SAVWIPL, Amit Madan, Vice President – Logistics Region India, received the recognition from Dr. M. Angamuthu, Chairperson, Mumbai Port Authority, along with Shri Adesh Titarmare, Deputy Chairperson, Mumbai Port Authority. The recognition is particularly significant as Mumbai Port continues to serve as an important gateway connecting India-manufactured vehicles with international markets.
For SAVWIPL, exports are not simply an extension of its manufacturing operations; they are a key element of its long-term strategy for India. The company has already shipped more than 725,000 vehicles manufactured in India to over 40 countries across Asia, Africa, the Middle East and North America. This sustained export performance demonstrates how Indian production facilities are increasingly integrated into global automotive networks.
The latest honour also builds on SAVWIPL’s earlier recognition as ‘Top Exporter 2023–2024’ by the Mumbai Port Authority. Together, these milestones reflect the company’s continued focus on manufacturing quality, logistics efficiency and operational excellence.
Piyush Arora, Managing Director & CEO, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India, described the recognition as a proud moment for the organisation, emphasising that the company’s Indian manufacturing ecosystem has matured into a global export base. The focus, he noted, remains on strengthening India’s role within the Group’s worldwide production and supply footprint.
SAVWIPL’s export portfolio has also continued to evolve. Alongside Fully Built Units of the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus, Škoda Kushaq and Slavia, the company is expanding its exports of parts and components. These are supporting local assembly operations in selected international markets and further integrating Indian suppliers and manufacturing capabilities into the Group’s global industrial ecosystem.
The company’s growing export ambitions are also visible in its regional expansion. Its recent entry into the Sri Lankan market represents another step in developing opportunities across emerging markets. As customer expectations, regulations and mobility requirements continue to evolve, SAVWIPL is positioned to explore new destinations and expand its international presence.
Behind this export momentum lies a substantial manufacturing base. Headquartered in Pune, SAVWIPL oversees the Indian operations of six Volkswagen Group brands Škoda, Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini and Porsche. Its two manufacturing plants have a combined annual capacity of 315,000 units, providing the scale required to serve both Indian and international demand
The company also crossed the milestone of two million locally produced vehicles in 2025, reflecting the depth and maturity of its Indian operations. Meanwhile, the locally manufactured Škoda Kylaq, Kushaq and Slavia, along with Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus, have collectively crossed 600,000 units.
As India seeks a larger role in global manufacturing, SAVWIPL’s export journey offers a compelling example of how localisation, supplier development, manufacturing scale and international logistics can work together. Its latest recognition by the Mumbai Port Authority is therefore more than an award for export volumes it is a reflection of India’s growing capability to manufacture products for the world.
With its continued focus on sustainable mobility, practical innovation and a balanced approach across ICE and BEV technologies, SAVWIPL is poised to deepen its contribution to India’s automotive export story. The road ahead points towards an increasingly connected role for India not just as a major automotive market, but as a strategic production and export base for global mobility.
