Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd. (SAVWIPL) has marked a landmark moment in its 25-year journey with the rollout of its 2 millionth locally produced vehicle, reaffirming India’s pivotal role in the Group’s global manufacturing ecosystem. The accomplishment comes at a time when the Group is witnessing one of its strongest growth phases in the country, with October 2025 emerging as its best month in six years and the second-highest monthly sales since SAVWIPL’s formation.
The achievement reflects the Group’s deepened commitment to localisation, engineering capability, and its expanding multi-brand portfolio that now stretches from mass-market models to the most exclusive luxury and super-luxury marques.
MQB-A0-IN Platform Fuels India-Centric Growth
A major contributor to the 2 million milestone is the MQB-A0-IN platform, engineered and developed in India specifically for local and emerging markets. More than 500,000 units have been produced on this platform alone, which underpins Škoda’s Kushaq, Slavia, and Kylaq, as well as Volkswagen’s Taigun and Virtus. These models have rapidly become segment benchmarks, establishing strong consumer demand and delivering global-quality engineering tailored for Indian roads and driving preferences.
Notably, the most recent 500,000 vehicles were manufactured in just 3.5 years, showcasing not only rising demand but also the efficiency and agility of SAVWIPL’s India operations.
Record-Setting Brand Performance Across the Portfolio
Škoda Auto India posted its highest-ever 10-month performance in 2025, registering 61,607 units, more than doubling its year-on-year volume.
Volkswagen India, meanwhile, recorded its strongest Diwali sales ever, driven primarily by the Virtus, which has captured over 40% share in the premium sedan segment within just 40 months.
SAVWIPL’s luxury and super-luxury brands also delivered exceptional results, contributing significantly to the Group’s market momentum:
- Bentley India entered a new era under SAVWIPL with dedicated operations and the opening of flagship showrooms in Mumbai and Bengaluru.
- Porsche India celebrated adding more than 4,400 new customers in six years, expanding its network to 13 sales touchpoints nationwide.
- Audi India achieved multiple milestones, including the RS Q8 winning Performance Car of the Year 2025 and a 5% growth for Audi Approved: plus between January and September 2025. Audi also advanced India’s premium EV ecosystem, installing over 6,500 charging points as part of Phase II of its Charge My Audi initiative.
- Lamborghini India registered its best-ever year in 2024 with 113 units delivered, a 10% growth over 2023. The launch of the Temerario, following the Revuelto and Urus SE, completes the brand’s transition to hybrids under the Direzione Cor Tauri strategy.
India Emerges as a Global Export Hub
With more than 700,000 vehicles exported to markets across Latin America, Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, India has solidified its position as a strategic manufacturing and export base for the Group. The achievement aligns strongly with the vision of ‘Made in India, Driven by the World.’
Two State-of-the-Art Facilities Drive Local Manufacturing Excellence
SAVWIPL operates advanced manufacturing plants in Pune (Chakan) and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Shendra).
The Pune facility alone represents an investment of nearly €600 million, supporting higher volumes, enhanced localisation, and technical innovation. Combined, both plants form the backbone of the Group’s India strategy, enabling a multi-brand, multi-market production pipeline with strong emphasis on efficiency, precision, and scalability.
Leadership Perspective
Piyush Arora, CEO & Managing Director, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India, emphasized the significance of this milestone, saying:
“Every milestone we achieve in India reflects our strong belief in the country’s potential—not just as a market but as a driving force in the future of mobility. The 2-million mark is the outcome of consistent investment in people, technology and local capability. It also speaks to the exceptional trust Indian customers place in our six brands. Indian buyers are among the most informed and discerning in the world. They evaluate every strength and every limitation before choosing a Volkswagen, Škoda, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini or Bentley, and their confidence strengthens our resolve. This achievement highlights how closely we listen to our customers and how their evolving expectations shape the products we design and build here, with the same quality, precision and trust that define the Group worldwide.”
Strengthening Local Competitiveness for the Future
SAVWIPL is aggressively enhancing its operational agility through organisation-wide cost optimisation, stronger market performance, and increased localisation across the value chain. These initiatives are aimed at fortifying long-term profitability while delivering globally benchmarked products engineered in India.
As the company accelerates its India strategy, the 2-million-production milestone stands not merely as a manufacturing record but as a testament to India’s growing influence in shaping the Group’s global mobility roadmap—from engineering and electrification to exports and premium market expansion.
